1.7 release notes
Before attempting to upgrade to Document Engine 1.7, first upgrade to Document Engine 1.6 if you haven’t already, and make sure your application still runs as expected. Read our upgrade guide first.
Highlights
This version ships with GdPicture 14.3.1. This is a major upgrade that brings improved stability and fidelity to various format conversions (Office, image, email, and CAD formats), PDF/A export, and data extraction capabilities offered by Document Engine.
The release also improves HTML-to-PDF conversion speed up to a factor of two times for documents that don’t contain HTML forms. Documents that contain forms keep the same HTML conversion performance.
Additionally, version 1.7 updates the communication protocol used to interact with supported objects — such as annotations, forms, bookmarks, and comments — by Nutrient Web SDK.
Previously, two separate protocols were used:
-
Sync protocol — Used when Instant was enabled (both available in the license and enabled within Web SDK).
-
REST protocol — Used when Instant was disabled.
The sync protocol has been updated to support working without the real-time collaboration license (i.e. the Instant license). Going forward, Web SDK will use this protocol by default, even if Instant isn’t enabled. This means features that were previously unavailable without Instant enabled will now be supported — specifically, this affects form creator and comments.
This new protocol will be supported by the upcoming Web 1.1.0 release. Document Engine maintains backward compatibility with Web SDK, so the old versions of Web SDK will continue to be supported.
