We’re thrilled to announce that the next revolution in the document editing space, our Document Authoring SDK, is now fully available to the public. Document Authoring, which was previously limited to a public preview, now brings a complete document editing experience based on a newly developed engine to the web browser.

Our Document Authoring SDK empowers web developers with an easy-to-use WYSIWYG (“what-you-see-is-what-you-get”) editor similar to Google Docs and Microsoft Word. It allows their users to seamlessly open, edit, and export complex documents within their web apps, ensuring perfect fidelity across browsers and in PDFs. With DOCX support and a customizable user interface (UI), it enhances document workflows within web applications.

Document Authoring tailors to your app’s specific needs, offering developers powerful UI customization. As a result, end users will be able to:

  • Build a trusted user experience with a page-based layout for rich text editing, reminiscent of the familiar interfaces of Google Docs and Microsoft Word, complemented by a robust feature set. The Document Authoring SDK delivers an intuitive WYSIWYG editor that mirrors the user-friendly interface of Google Docs.

  • Ensure perfect fidelity and comprehensive editing capabilities with the ability to open DOCX files and then export edited documents to DOCX or PDF. Documents render the same across all browsers and when exported to PDF, making our SDK the ideal choice for precise and professional document handling needs.

  • Save valuable time and effort with the ability to open, design, edit, and export documents — even complex ones — from the convenience of a web browser, eliminating the need to use third-party applications or convert documents between formats.

  • Enhance workflow efficiency and user satisfaction with seamless integration and customization. Designed with a fully customizable UI, Document Authoring integrates effortlessly into any web application.

Key Document Authoring features include:

  • True word processing
Use advanced word processing, similar to what you expect from platforms like Google Docs and MS Word, to create complex tables, floating images, headers/footers, and intricate numbering systems — surpassing the basic text editing capabilities of other rich text editors.

  • A browser-independent layout engine
Our SDK’s page-based layout engine neutralizes browser discrepancies, ensuring document consistency across all platforms, and preserving formatting when documents are exported as PDFs.

  • Support for MS Word templates
Document Authoring enables your users to open DOCX files within your web app and export edited documents to DOCX or, with perfect fidelity, to PDF.

  • Open file format [coming soon]
Use our fully documented, backward-compatible JSON format and flexible API for seamless integration and enhancements with our Web SDK, in turn offering unparalleled adaptability for your projects.

The Future Is Bright

This powerful new editing engine addresses the traditional limitations of browser-based editors by providing a user experience (UX) consistent with Word processors. And because it seamlessly integrates into your application, you won’t have to “throw” users “out” to external services, in turn keeping them engaged in your app and adding extra value.

Looking ahead, we envision this engine as a fusion of rich text editing — featuring a familiar set of tools and UI — and capabilities for creating custom document layouts. These layouts not only incorporate graphics but also transcend traditional text blocks, tables, and markup. Our aim is to cater to a broad range of end user needs — from crafting standard text documents, to designing intricate, image-rich pages. All of this is made possible within the convenience of a web-based document viewer integrated seamlessly into your web applications.

We’d love for you to try it here.
