PSPDFKit was founded in 2011 to help put a magazine on an iPhone with a PDF viewer. Although it initially focused on improving PDF viewing, markup, signing, and other PDF document processing across iOS, Android, Windows, and web platforms, PSPDFKit quickly became a leading provider of a robust and scalable PDF framework.
Over the years, the company expanded its expertise through strategic acquisitions — Muhimbi, ORPALIS, Aquaforest, and Integrify — adding capabilities in image processing, document conversion, OCR, low-code M365 solutions, and workflow automation. Having evolved into a global powerhouse that supports more than half a billion users worldwide, the PSPDFKit group of companies rebranded to Nutrient, reflecting the unified mission of delivering a seamless enterprise digital document platform.

PSPDFKit’s trajectory from a small startup to a globally recognized brand has been fueled by strategic investments and acquisitions. Following a €100M investment from Insight Partners in 2021, the company expanded its capabilities.
January 2022
PSPDFKit acquired Muhimbi, a UK-based software provider specializing in cloud and on-premises document conversion, OCR, and content management for SharePoint, Power Automate, and custom apps.
May 2022
PSPDFKit acquired ORPALIS and Aquaforest, enhancing its offerings in document imaging and processing, and further expanding its enterprise low-code solutions for M365.
December 2023
PSPDFKit acquired Integrify, a workflow and business process automation platform that specializes in automating complex business processes, further expanding into the citizen-developer business process automation space.

Security at our core
Far from being an afterthought or the focus of occasional initiatives, security has been tightly integrated into the PSPDFKit culture from the beginning. The PSPDFKit SDK was designed with a robust security framework that ensures the highest levels of data integrity, confidentiality, and compliance with industry and regulatory standards — including GDRP and SOC2.
The PSPDFKit core SDK and user interface sit on top of an optimized fork of PDFium that PSPDFKit has been developing and improving on for the past 10 years. PDFium is the most widely used PDF rendering library, used in Chromium and maintained by Google, with contributions from Microsoft, Dropbox, and PSPDFKit.
