Our aim has always been to support all current and future SharePoint versions. SharePoint versions from 2007 to 2019 largely share the same architecture, resulting in mainly small tweaks (and some not-so-small ones) to make the same product work on all SharePoint versions. To us, on-premises means a SharePoint 2007–2019 installation you’ve installed yourself or someone (other than Microsoft) is maintaining on your behalf.

Over the last few years, Microsoft has been pushing the cloud, popularizing a product known as SharePoint Online, or Office 365. Depending on who you talk to, these terms are used interchangeably, but we call it SharePoint Online. Although the SharePoint Online user interface resembles SharePoint 2019, it’s a different beast under the hood, especially when it comes to third-party extensibility. Our core conversion service is largely the same, but the entire front end (SharePoint User Interface, Workflow Actions) has had to be redeveloped from scratch.

In addition to a 30-day fully functional trial version, a completely free version of Document Converter for SharePoint Online is available as well. The trial should be used when evaluating the product with the intention of purchasing a full subscription. This version provides a large number of operations for 30 days, with the ability to use all functionality provided by the product. However, generated documents include an evaluation watermark.

The free version is aimed at users who only need very basic functionality and a modest number of operations per month. Documents generated using the free subscription do not include an evaluation watermark.

Each subscription level comes with a different maximum operation size and operations per month allowance.

The maximum size decides the size, in bytes, for a single operation. This includes the total size of all source files in a single merge operation, as well as the size of a single conversion.

The number of operations per month is the number of individual operations carried out. Some examples of a single operation include converting a file, watermarking a file, securing a file, and carrying out OCR on a single page.

Each subscription level comes with a different operations per month allowance. When a subscription has reached 75 percent of the allowance, you’ll receive an automated email requesting you contact the Nutrient team to make arrangements. When reaching 100 percent of the allowance, without making any arrangements, the software will cease to work for the rest of the month.

If 75 percent isn’t the correct trigger for your organization, please contact Support to change this figure.

Navigate to the orders screen, (you may be asked to log in first), click Get License Key for the relevant order, and click Download link. After downloading the license key, you can forward it to someone else by attaching it to an email.

Although they look the same, SharePoint Online and SharePoint On-Premises (2007–2019) are completely different and incompatible products. As a result, there’s no way to install our on-premises software in the cloud.

The most common reason for this is that, by default, watermarks are displayed in the background, behind the document’s content. In most cases, this isn’t a problem, as the content of most documents is largely transparent. However, this isn’t the case for PowerPoint presentations or scanned content. Learn more here.

Document Converter for SharePoint automatically converts (and merges) all files attached to an InfoPath form as long as they’re part of the views being converted. The conversion of attachments is enabled by default but can be disabled globally using the conversion service’s config file, or on a call-by-call basis when using the web services interface. To determine which view or views to export, Document Converter uses the prioritization rules. The first rule is that regardless of how a view or views are selected for export, if the selected view has a print view specified, then that view is given priority. Yes. You need to create a simple SharePoint Designer workflow to automatically convert any new or updated document in a library to PDF format. Then you need to periodically copy a batch of converted PDF files from SharePoint to your local drive using a Library’s Actions / Open with Windows Explorer menu. Finally, you need to select the batch of PDF files on your local system, right-click one of the files, and select the Print option.

The tenancy ID can usually be found at the bottom of the trial subscription box. If the trial has already been installed on the destination SharePoint environment, the easiest way to retrieve the tenancy ID is to try and convert a file using Document Converter’s SharePoint user interface.

Some of the features provided by Document Converter for SharePoint require a level of privileges slightly higher than what out-of-the-box SharePoint App Store apps are allowed to have. Rather than bypassing the App Store completely, making deployment more difficult, we provide the option to elevate the App Permissions manually, but only when certain functionality is needed. You can centrally elevate the app on all site collections and also elevate the app on a single site collection.

Unfortunately, Microsoft doesn’t allow administrators to install applications specifically for selected users or user groups. Nevertheless, you have two installation options. You can install it for your account and all users in your tenant by checking the Consent on behalf of your organization checkbox in the Microsoft permissions dialog box. Alternatively, you can install the application for your account only by unchecking the Consent on behalf of your organization checkbox.

Yes. As an individual user, you can install the app to your account directly from AppSource.

No. Unfortunately, Document Editor cannot be restricted to specific sites. To achieve such restrictions, you’ll need to opt for the Extension or Web Part standalone installation options.

No. Unfortunately, Document Editor is only available for internal users. If you want to enable external/guest users to use Document Editor, you’ll need the Extension or Web Part standalone installation options.

The trial version remains fully functional for a period of 14 days from the initial installation date. Once the trial expires, Document Editor will be accessible in view-only mode, and a trial watermark will be shown.

If a user in your tenant has already evaluated Document Editor and the trial has expired, any new user from the same tenant who installs the product won’t be able to use the trial. If you need a trial extension, please contact our Sales team.

At the moment, Microsoft’s file handler framework doesn’t support the Document Editor for SharePoint, Teams, and OneDrive applications appearing on the recent files page.

If a user has MFA enabled and has successfully registered their authentication methods, Document Editor should function without any problems.

Document Editor for SharePoint can be accessed on mobile devices only via mobile browsers. It doesn’t work on the SharePoint mobile app.
